Newsletter and Covid-19 update

Having had a very busy spring term online the leaders are now trying their hardest to get meetings started both face to face and online. Cubs managed a bike ride on 18/09 it was great to see everyone face to face, scouts are going to be camping at home again with some beavers joining in. Why not check out the photos on Facebook?

The constantly changing guidance and regulations can make last minute changes unavoidable but we will be running as many meetings as we can.

September 2020 news letter is now available to download, just click on the link below.

Thanks to Caroline T of our executive committee for putting this newsletter together

We have set up closed Facebook groups for each section, you must be eligible to join and leaders will verify eligibility before approving you request. Simply search for Central Gosforth Beaver Scouts, Central Gosforth Cubs or Central Gosforth Scouts and ask to join.

Coronavirus update & Facebook launch

As we all know the current crisis is having a massive impact on all aspects of our lives. Some of our leaders and parents have vital roles to perform in providing essential services to help limit its impact and support those unfortunate enough to be directly affected.

All face to face scouting activities and events have been suspended until further notice. Scouting in Northumberland is attempting to deliver a limited programme of activities in order to help the young people keep working towards their top awards, in view of this as well as the school closures we are attempting to provide access to online learning materials.

This website does not have the flexibility or capacity to support the online learning materials suggested by Northumberland scouts. We have created CLOSED Facebook groups if you have a Facebook account please request to join the “Central Gosforth Beaver Scouts“, “Central Gosforth Cubs” or “Central Gosforth Scouts” (for both All Saints & Montagu troops. ) All groups are closed so only those who have been deemed as being suitable to join can and see the content, this is explained in the group rules. We have consulted other leaders across the district for guidance in setting the group up. Many other scout groups have Facebook pages, some open and some closed and use them to communicate with members, it allows the leaders to see evidence from young people when they complete any tasks that have been set. Please be patient as this is rolled out and new online material is added and please share this information with others who may not have seen it.

Central Gosforth scout group parade

Blessed with glorious sunshine and the support of family and friends our group turned out and paid their respects to the fallen. Impecable behaviour by all our young people from beavers through to young leaders throughout the parade and service of remembrance in Gosforth central park. We were once again joined by 100th Scout group from Heaton and also, for the first year West Gosforth.

Havanna Three Hills nature reserve Volunteers

A small group of Cubs & Scouts attended the nature reserve to help the rangers clear undergrowth from a hedge row planted by our scouts on a previous visit. We had to find it first!

Before

The group did Central Gosforth proud with the rangers commenting “what a great group of kids & they worked so hard”

After

West end food bank visit

In preparation for Harvest festival the cubs were visited by a lady from the west end food bank.

She explained to us how anybody could be in need of their service due to changes in their family circumstances. We also learnt how to use food most effectively. The food bank were very grateful to receive our donations.

Group BBQ

The executive committee once again organised our annual social get together, with families of all sections attending a Friday night BBQ on All Saints Church green.

Thanks go to Scouts and young leaders for running games to raise funds for the upcoming Tall Ships sailing weekend, and to Lewis for organising and setting them up. The raffle was a success helped by kind donations from parents and friends.
